North Shore, Stockton-on-Tees
North Shore comprises 20 ha (52 acre) of derelict land, situated east of Stockton town centre opposite the University of Durhams Stockton Campus on the River Tees. The 10-year development scheme is expected to lead to an overall investment through our partner Tees Valley Regeneration of £300m to transform the riverside and bring more than 4,500 new jobs to the area.
The proposed plans will provide Stockton with a truly mixed use community. There will be a variety of public and private spaces taking advantage of the sites south facing waterfront location and proximity to the town centre.
With designers MUSE and Urban Splash committed to the site, plans for North Shore will complement additional town centre regeneration transforming Stockton.
Progress on site
Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd have completed reclamation and infrastructure works, totalling some £18m to date.
The new, iconic pedestrian footbridge that spans the River Tees connecting North Shore with Teesdale and Durham Universitys Queens Campus, is under construction. The £15m structure was designed by Chris Wise with Expedition Engineering and Spence Associates. The graceful shape sees two arches soar across the water from each bank, overlapping slightly as they plunge into the River Tees.
The subsequent phases, which are underway, will include the construction of the North Shore Gyratory Road. In addition, there is an extensive programme to landscape the area and develop the river frontage.
