Vision @ Devonport

Since the Second World War, the former South Yard Enclave in Devonport, Plymouth has been owned by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and closed to the public for security reasons. A three-metre high wall was used to surround the MOD site including the South Yard site and Devonport, once a thriving town in its own right, and fell into decline in the 1960s.

Devonport site progress, July 2007English Partnerships bought the 7.3 ha site in 2005 and formed partnerships with Devonport Regeneration Community Partnerships (DRC Partnership) and Redrow Homes to ensure the redevelopment proposals contained a good mix of homes and employment opportunity.

Plans for rejuvenating the site include over 450 high-quality homes with almost one quarter of these available for affordable rent or shared ownership, a community healthcare centre, new supermarket and shops, offices and managed workspace.

The security wall started to be dismantled in January 2007 with the help of local people which was a major milestone in the regeneration of Devonport.
